“Many, O LORD my God, are Your wonderful works which You have done; and Your thoughts toward us Cannot be recounted to You in order; if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered” (Psalm 40:5; NKJV).
Counting blessings takes the focus off of our problems, cares, anxieties and worries. Are you worried and troubled about many things? Lay your cares at the Cross, count some blessings, pray prayers of thanksgiving, and allow the peace of GOD to guard your heart and mind through Christ Jesus (1 Peter 5:7; Philippians 4:6-7).
Counting blessings puts the focus on our GOD, the source of all blessings. Are you worried and troubled about many things? Take the focus off of your inadequacies and put them on the One who is able (Jeremiah 2:13).
Counting blessings reminds us that GOD is there, that He cares, strengthening our faith. Are you down and out, experiencing feelings of loneliness? Draw near to GOD through counting blessings, prayers of thanksgiving, and repentance. Humble yourself in His sight. Allow Him to love you. Allow Him to lift you up (James 4:8, 10).
Counting blessings fills our hearts with joy! Is your heart in the night of despair? Joy “comes in the morning” (Psalm 30:5). Remember the times your good Father has seen you through the night and pray for the morning to come!
Counting blessings reminds us that we are blessed! Do you find that the things you don’t have distract you? Focus on what you do have! What you have “in Christ” is far better (Ephesians 1:3).
May GOD bless us to see the importance of counting our blessings, recognizing Him as the giver of all good things, rejoicing that He loves us with the tender love of a compassionate Father. Let us rejoice and be glad that our Father is so good to us. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving!
